As I had walk further the previous day than the guidebook suggested, the next stop, the village of Larche, was not that far away. I walked slowly first towards the Col du Vallonnet (2520m) and then Col de Mallemort (2558m) one hour after.

Just under the col lies the ruined barracks of Baraquements de Viraysse, colonised nowadays by a marmot family. I was able to sneak behind that little fellow.

The ruins offer a good spot for wild camping too.

From the col it took merely two hours to go down to the next valley and Larche. The day and walking felt slightly dull after the splendour of the previous day. But for a change it was good to be early at the camp and rest well.

  1. I’m just wondering what shop is in Ceillac and Larche?

Currently in Briancon and am wondering how many days of food I will need to take, I’m taking a slightly different route rather than fully sticking to the GR5, so I may need to take up to 5 days of food from Ceillac to get me to Isola 2000 if Larche doesn’t have a shop.

    Thanks,

    Nick
